Key 5 – Leverage Your Time

Having worked with hundreds of online entrepreneurs over the years, I’ve observed that many have a tendency to “reinvent the wheel” every time they start a new project.

They agonize over their ability to be really “original” and spend countless hours creating things from scratch. Not only is this a waste of precious time, but they risk creating something “original” that doesn’t work!

Let’s say that whenever someone asks you to email them information about one of your products or services, you go to your computer and compose a brand new email each time.

When you are starting out this might work okay for a while. But what happens when you’ve had a really long a frustrating day, and the last thing you feel like doing is responding to another email request? Well, if you’re like most, you’ll probably do either of the following:

  • Put it off… rationalize that you’ll do a better job “later” and risk forgetting about it all together.
  • Write and send a half-hearted, ill conceived reply… In an effort to “get it done” it’s likely that you’ll omit key pieces of information; communicate a less-than-enthusiastic attitude and/or ensure that it’s chocked full of typos and misspellings.

To avoid self sabotaging activities the very best solution is to automate your most common recurring responses.

 Re-purposing Your Content

There are many ways you can leverage your efforts for increased efficiency, or using the same investment of hours to obtain results in several different areas. Some examples of this kind of marketing leverage include:

  • Use a speech as the basis of a blog post or newsletter article. In fact, many organizations for whom you might speak will be happy to publish your talk in their newsletters, which benefits their readership with valuable content and gets you additional exposure to their audience.
  • Use a speech as the basis of a workshop. The speech is a great outline for a workshop, and with very little additional work you can have a great program to market. The speech itself can be used as a general description of what will be covered in the workshop.
  • Give your presentation to different groups. You can customize the speech to integrate the language and address the pertinent needs of different audiences quite easily. The core content doesn’t change, just the “window dressing.”
  • Use a speech as the basis for a radio or television interview. Many talk show hosts, particularly in local and regional markets, are thrilled to have guest experts on their shows who provide them with valuable content ahead of time. They then have a solid basis from which to craft their questions. It makes their time, and yours, more efficient. And, you have the added advantage of knowing the types of questions you’ll be asked.
  • Have  your presentation transcribed into a PDF download and give away as an optin bonus on your website.
  • Record your content onto an audio or video and either give away or sell online or create a CD.
  • The content can also be “chunked down” in to smaller sections for blog posts or even a mini-course like this one.

Leverage Your Income With Affiliate Programs

Another great way to work less and make more money is to earn income selling other peoples products!  For example when I became a Guerrilla Marketing Coach in 1999 I realized that my clients would need tools for running an online business. I found an excellent solution for automating my business and taking payments online.  Better yet I become an affiliate of this product and started making recurring monthly income reselling it (as you can too).

Affiliate programs are great ways to set up multiple streams of income. If you are new to them read this: Affiliate Program Basics
