Create Goals In 2013 That Inspire You To Take Action

Create Goals That Inspire You To Take Action

Looking to make your goal setting more effective?   To get off on the right path we are going to lead with the words of one of the greatest minds in business history, Stephen Covey.

Note: if any of these ideas are familiar to you I strongly suggest you take a “beginner mind” and see how you can more deeply apply these concepts to your life.  There is a PDF download near the end of this article where you can track your progress.

Begin With The End In Mind

Did you know – [texthighlight color=”blue-vibrant” ]one of the top roadblocks to success is the absence of clearly articulated goals?[/texthighlight]

Did you know – [texthighlight color=”blue-vibrant” ]the very act of writing down your goals substantially increases your chances of success?[/texthighlight]

You may be surprised to learn, in my experience, most entrepreneurs do not:

  • Express their goals clearly
  • Define the action steps required to achieve their goals
  • Track and measure their progress
[/list]

How many times have you set a goal on January 1 that you blew off by Jan 5?   If so, you are not alone, this is a common story.

The real question is why?

While there many be a number reasons we procrastinate (we have a whole session dedicated to getting you passed this). This is also an indication that your goals are not clear and irresistible enough to you.

To get what you want in life it is essential you know specifically what you are trying to accomplish and why.

For example…

[texthighlight color=”blue-vibrant” ]General goals (ineffective)[/texthighlight]:  I want to create a better life.  I want to have more fun.  I want to make more money

[texthighlight color=”blue-vibrant” ]Specific goals (and why)[/texthighlight] :  I want to earn an extra $3,000  by July 31, 2012 so I can put a down payment on our new car.

I’ll call the travel agent and book our airline ticket by Feb 3, 2012 so that my family can have an amazing trip together!

As simple as this may sound many people do not take the time to really think this through.

Whatever is most important to you needs your focused and consistent attention.

In my book Success Secrets of The Online Marketing Superstars I interviewed Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of Chicken Soup For the Soul on how he creates compelling goals. Here are his key points.  For details on these points, read this article: 10 Keys To Creating Powerful Goals
